A bench of remembrance has now been installed in the War Memorial Garden.
The two silhouette figures of soldiers that were attached to trees in the garden had to be removed as they were becoming damaged by the growth of the trees – sadly, once removed it was found that the figures had warped and could not be reused.
As the Parish Council felt there should be something added to the garden in their place it was agreed that a bench of remembrance would be appropriate – a place to remember lost members of the services or simply to sit and enjoy the peace of the garden. The bench carries the inscription , “Lest We Forget”.
As part of the garden renovation, new railings were installed last year when the wall was rebuilt and stabilised. A wrought iron bench was commissioned to be sited within the garden and placed so that visitors can look out past houses and onto our beautiful Teesdale landscape.
